Funeral service for George Randolph Steward, 82, will be Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Maddox officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Steward passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Voncile Collier Steward; three children, Rodney Steward (Shelia), Darlene Wallace (David), Russell Steward, all of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Brody Messer, Brittany Messer, Kourtney Steward and Brooke Wallace; three great- grandchildren, Phoenix, Olivia and Jensen; step mother, Alice Steward, of Piedmont; four sisters, Ann Smelser (Bill), of Snellville, Georgia, Vickie Goss (Randy), Marsha Hanson (Ed), and Lisa Bates, all of Piedmont; two brothers, James "Mutt" Steward (Frances) and Greg Steward (Joy), all of Piedmont; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Todd Collier, Brent Collier, Mark Steward, Mike Steward, Rodney Hamby, and Chris Logan. Mr. Steward was a lifelong resident of Piedmont. He was retired from the Alabama National Guard and Anniston Army Depot. He loved spending time with his children and family, enjoyed Alabama football and fishing.
