Funeral service for MSGT. Gerald Lee Hamby, USAF (RET.), 76, will be Sunday, March 23, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Eulaton First Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hamby passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Noland Hospital with his family by his side after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lonnette Hamby, of Anniston; a daughter, Leann Hamby, of Anniston; a son, Gerry (Katy) Hamby, of Oxford; a sister, Peggy (Kenny) Colburn, of Anniston; a "brother", R.J. (Louise) Sherman, of Anniston; three grandsons, Shane Thomason, Nicholas (Amanda) Thomason, all of Anniston and Noah Camp, of Cordova, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Mallory (Brandon) Wilson, of Morton, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Burt and Alex Burt, both of Golden Springs and Hunter Wilson, of Morton, Miss.; sisters-in-law, Angela (Wolfgang) Muller and Lana Reaves; brothers-in-law, Mitchel (Carrie) Reaves and Donald (Sandra) Reaves. Pallbearers will be Shane Thomason, Nicholas Thomason, Noah Camp, Brandon Wilson, Frankie Luallen and Joe Hamby. Mr. Hamby was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Jewell Hamby; brothers, Billy Frank and Wayne Hamby; parents-in-law, Fred and Addie Reaves. Mr. Hamby served in Okinawa, Germany, Vietnam, England, Thailand and many bases in the United States. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oxford. He was also a graduate of Oxford High School, Class of 1955 and Jacksonville State University. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
