Funeral service for Gerald (Jerry) Mitchell, 80, will be Today, May 11, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Talladega Springs Cemetery in Talladega Springs. Officiating the service will be Deacon Susan McKee, Magnolia Springs Chapel Episcopal Church in Magnolia Springs. Mr. Mitchell passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.S. and Mertie (Jackson) Mitchell and his nine siblings. Jerry worked for AT&T for 31 years, where he later retired. He was an honorary member of the Communications Workers of America and the Pioneer Network. He loved to travel with his wife, spending time with his family and friends, singing, and boating on Lay Lake. He also loved his Alabama football. Mr. Mitchell loved his wife, daughter, family, and his K-9 companions Jay-Jay and Brady dearly. He will be truly missed by all that knew him. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Mitchell, of Foley; daughter, Jeri Melinda Rayfield, of Foley; granddaughter, Stacy Fields of Calera, and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Carlee, Clint Carlee, Mike Mitchell, Rex Brewer, Chris Godfrey, and Mike Brewer. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at radneysmith.com.
