H. Damon McAlister, 84, of Northport passed away April 18, 2017 at Hospice of West Alabama. Service will be 11:30 a.m., today, April 19, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home with Kerry Richardson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held in Piedmont Memorial Gardens following the service at 2:30 p.m. Mr. McAlister was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Emily Marbut McAlister; brothers, Mac, Louie, Ernest, Glen, Alton and James McAlister, and his only son, Keith McAlister. He is survived by his wife, Martha Wallace McAlister, of Northport; daughter, Kayron McAlister Berry, of Northport; sister, Joyce McAlister Thrasher, of Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Justin Ray McAlister, of Nashville, Tenn., Jared Wallace McAlister, of Nashville, Tenn., Kory Damon Berry, of Northport, Hannah Claire Berry, of Nashville, Tenn., Mattie Caroline Berry, of Northport. Damon was born November 2, 1932 in Etowah County. He grew up in Hokes Bluff with his six brothers and one sister. He served in the Air Force and then worked for the U.S Postal Service for 40 years. He owned the Shoe Cove in Piedmont for 24 years. He was a member of the Northport Church of Christ. He was a loving husband and daddy until his death. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and deacons of the Northport Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, Heritage Health Care, or the Alzheimer's Foundation. Sunset Funeral Home 205-345-2900
