Harold Lloyd "Buck" Pilkington, 89, entered Heaven on May 5, 2016 in Anniston. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn Murray Pilkington; daughters, Deena P. Pennington and Susan Haynes (Donald); grandchildren, Ryan Pennington (Janna) and Brian Haynes (Claire); sister, Sue Grady; aunts, Lois Bentley and Kathleen "Pilk" Pilkington; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Buck was preceded in death by his son-in-law, George Pennington; parents, L.O. "Big Daddy" and Gladys "Big Mamma" Hale Pilkington; father-in-law, Chester Murray; mother-in-law, Jessie Murray; brother-in-law, Gerald Grady; granddaughter, Courtney Haynes Harris (Allen), and many extended family. Buck was a life-long resident of Bynum. He proudly served his country as Seaman First Class in the United Stated Navy. He also served in the United States Navy Reserve, United States Army Reserve and Chief Warrant Officer in the Alabama National Guard. He served during World War II, and was activated during the Korean War. Buck received numerous commendations and awards during his years of service. He retired from the Alabama National Guard February 26, 1987. Buck began working at Anniston Army Depot in 1947, and worked there 36 years, retiring as Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Foreman in March 1980. Following his retirement, Buck worked with FMC as a consultant for 10 years. Buck was a member of Bynum Baptist Church, serving as past Chairman of the Deacons. He was very active and involved in maintaining the church property. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Moreno and the Rev. Benji Miller officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 8, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the funeral home with burial to follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Ryan Pennington and Brian Haynes; nephews, Gerald Ray Grady, Howie Hydrick and Wayne Horton; cousins, Howard Pilkington, Terry Willingham and Jerry Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be active and prior Deacons of Bynum Baptist Church, Bill Butterworth, Wayne Preston and Ronald Haynes. The family would appreciate donations be made to St. Jude Hospital or Bynum Baptist Church. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Stringfellow Hospital, and Dr. Warren Wallace, M.D., Anniston.
