Funeral service for H.E. "Mac" McWhorter, 90, will be Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, in Jacksonville, with the Rev. Jim Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. McWhorter died Monday, March 16, 2015 at NCH in Anniston. He is survived by his wife, Glenda W. McWhorter, of Anniston; one daughter, Jana (Mike) Moon, of Gadsden; one son, Gary (Sherri) McWhorter, of Augusta, Ga.; a step-son, Stan (Debbie) Nelson, of Oxford; three grandsons, William (Chrissy) Moon, of Auburn, Michael (Janet) Moon, of Gadsden and Greg (Tabitha) McWhorter, of Snellville, Ga.; two granddaughters, Tammy (Eddie) Butler, of Oxford and Amber (Jamie) Small, of Conway, S.C.; one step-grandson, Graham Nelson, of Atlanta, Ga.; one step-granddaughter, Jessica (Brad) Crawford, of Canton, Ga.; 10 great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be members of the family. Mr. McWhorter was a member of West Park Heights Baptist Church and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, eating with family and friends and watching Alabama sports. Mr. McWhorter was a White Plains graduate and spent most of his working career in the public school system for the state of Alabama. He served as principal of Oxford Elementary School and worked for the State Department of Education as their Educational Television Coordinator for many years.
