Anniston - Dr. Heather L. Sabo Moskowitz M.D. passed away November 28, 2012. Dr. Sabo was a native of Edmonton Alberta Canada where she was a graduate of the University of Alberta (B.SC. with honors, in genetics); Lethbridge University (BSE); and the University of Calgary School of Medicine (M.D.). She completed her residency in Medicine at Newfoundland (St. John's, Canada). After college graduation, Dr. Sabo was a member of CUSO where she taught aboriginals at the Catholic Mission School in Papua New Guinea. After completing medical school and residency, she was a staff physician in Moose Factory Ontario, Canada, on Hudson's Bay. She came to Anniston to join the staff of Family and Occupational Medicine (Dr. VanMarter's group). She later joined her husband, Dr. Moskowitz at 1408 Leighton Ave. She was a member of the medical staff at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and NEARMC since her arrival in Anniston; a Board Certified Family Physician; a member of the Calhoun County, Medical Society, MASA, and the AMA. Dr. Sabo was a world traveler including visiting the Holy Land where spent a month at a Kibbutz. She had a great love for photography, music and Biblical archaeology. Dr. Sabo was a beloved Physician of many patients and colleagues and was very involved in the medical community. Dr. Sabo leaves her husband, Dr. Maurice Moskowitz M.D., of Anniston; brother, David Sabo, Ph. D. of Vancouver, British Columbia; father, Andrew Sabo, of Edmonton, Alberta; best friend, Marilyn Witthage Wismer, of Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Sabo also had numerous family members on both the Hauer and Sabo sides. Dr. Sabo was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Louise Hauer Sabo and brother, Glenn Sabo. Flowers may be sent to Chapel Hill or in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UAB Health Science Foundation, MASA, the AMA, and the Salvation Army. She will be sorely missed by her husband, family, patients, community and friends all over the world. Flower arrangements will be by Pinson Florist. Visitation will be Sunday, December 9, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
