Graveside service for Mrs. Helen Summers Johnson, 97, of Anniston, will be today, January 3, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Highland Cemetery with the Reverend Pete Hawker officiating. The family will receive friends today from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Mrs. Johnson passed away January 1, 2015 at Autumn Cove. Mrs. Johnson attended Montevallo University and graduated from Jacksonville State University. Most of her 35 years of teaching were in the Anniston City School System and the Montgomery County School System. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anniston for over 50 years. Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of Autumn Cove Assisted Living for the last four years. The family is grateful for the excellent care Mrs. Johnson received during her years at Autumn Cove. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Lee Payne, of Anniston; grandchildren, William E. Rutledge Jr. and his wife, Gena, of Birmingham and Helen R. Wiley and her husband, Porter, of Raleigh, N.C.; a step-grandson, Robert E. Payne of Atlanta, Ga.; six great-grandchildren, Katherine Rutledge, William Rutledge, John Rutledge, Anna Rutledge, Willa Wiley, and Lucia Wiley and a brother, William K. Summers and his wife, Ruth, of Cedar Bluff. Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Freeman L. Johnson and sisters, Dorothy Powers, Frances Sibert and Billie Chesnut.
