Funeral service for Herbert Baswell, 79, will be Thursday, January 29, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with Tom Baxley officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 12-2 p.m. on Thursday. Mr. Baswell passed away Monday, January 26, 2015, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Survivors include three children, Sandra Holmes, Shirley Black (Jackie) and Carley Baswell (Lynn Gilley), all of Pleasant Gap; three grandchildren, Hillery Holmes, Ethan Black and Jacob Black, all of Pleasant Gap; two sisters, Raynell Bradshaw, of Weaver and Betty Jackson (Wendell), of Piedmont and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ethan Black, Jacob Black, David Aikens, Colton McCrelles, Stanley Rogers and Marty Wilson. Mr. Baswell was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne and Cherokee Counties. He was a longtime cattle and poultry farmer, loved hunting and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the Highway 9 Church of Christ and always enjoyed telling his grandchildren stories about his adventures when he was growing up. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Linda S. Baswell; his parents, Floyd and Pearl Baswell; two sisters, Lona Ree Hunt and Toni Tierce and one brother, Casey Baswell. www.thompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com
