Jacksonville - Funeral service for Mr. Herbert J. Amerson, 87, will be Thursday, May 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. at West Point Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will be in Post Oak Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Amerson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 20, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cathleen "Cat" Payne Amerson, of Jacksonville; his daughter, Nancy Champion and her husband Thelbert, of Sylacauga; his son, Edward "Buster" Amerson, of Ohatchee; two grandchildren, Tabatha Bridges and her husband, Brad, of Saks and Shane Champion, of Pelham; one great-grandchild, Cole Bridges; several nieces and nephews; one brother, Jimmy Taylor, of Charleston, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Eva Winfrey, of Oxford; and a brother-in-law, Arnold Hincey of Jacksonville. Pallbearers will be Sonny Thackerson, Kenneth Cash, Joe Hayes, Larry Pierce, Everett Martin and Claude Gaddy. Mr. Amerson was a member of the First Baptist Church of McClellan. He loved the Lord and served him throughout his life and served as a deacon for 45 years. Mr. Amerson was a pattern maker by trade and loved wood working. The family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone for their love, support and prayers during this time. Whether it was a phone call, a card, food or a visit, it was all deeply appreciated.
