Mrs. Hilma K. Bennett (née Cosper) died peacefully and surrounded by family on November 4th in Sellersburg, Indiana at the age of 91. Hilma was preceded in death by her parents, John David and Mitty Yeats Cosper of Ranburne, AL and her husband, William Russell Bennett, Jr. Hilma is survived by her daughter, Katrina V. McGucken; grandchildren, William B. McGucken, Jennifer R. Shore, and Amy E. McGucken; great grandchildren, Kyle V. McGucken, William P. McGucken, and James A. McGucken; and her sister Wilma Cosper of Pulaski, VA. Hilma was born on March 4th in Ranburne, AL to John and Mitty. She graduated from college with a degree in teaching. She was married to Bill, an air traffic controller, for over 50 years. Hilma began working for Oxford High School as an English teacher for over three decades mainly teaching seventh grade English. She is remembered as a kind, loving mother who encouraged her family and students to pursue their goals and dreams. Hilma was accomplished at sewing and embroidery and often created beautiful, intricate works with thread. She was a generous and witty individual who loved reading and gardening. She was passionate about the importance of education and giving to others in need. She was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Oxford. She and her husband were air streamers and traveled a great deal. A graveside funeral is scheduled for Saturday, November 11th at 2 p.m. at the Oxford Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hilma's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude's, Veterans of Foreign Wars, or Samaritan's Purse.
