Mr. Hobert Allen Cunningham, "Papa Hob", 82, went to be with Jesus on Thursday morning, May 8, 2014, at NHC Health Care in Golden Springs after fighting Alzheimer's disease for over 8 years. Funeral service will be held today, May 10, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston with Dr. Rick Reaves officiating and Judge Ryan Robertson singing. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow at Forestlawn Gardens in Golden Springs. Hobert was a native of Calhoun County for most of his life and was born in Cherokee County, Alabama to Elmer Cleveland and Pearl Miranda Brooks Cunningham on July 1, 1931. Mr. Cunningham retired from Hodges Construction, APAC as a foreman after 45 years of service, and then worked in the shop at Oxford One-Stop. He took pride and worked hard in everything that he did, he loved to talk and tell jokes and he adored his family and friends. "Papa" never met a stranger. Mr. Cunningham was the last remaining survivor of the original Cunningham children. He will be greatly missed. We find joy and peace in knowing that "Papa" is now healthy, has a renewed mind and has been reunited with his wife Virginia and his loved ones in Heaven. Hobert was a member of Cornerstone Worship Center. He loved bluegrass music, especially Earnest Tubb, Hank Williams Sr. and the Blue Sky Boys. Mr. Cunningham is proceeded in death by his parents Elmer Cleveland and Pearl Miranda Brooks Cunningham; his brothers and sisters, Wilburn Cunningham, Jack Cunningham, Curtis Cunningham, Calvin Cunningham, Ruby Cunningham Owens, Edna Cunningham Singleton, Electa Cunningham Kines and Gertie Cunningham Studdard; his loving wife of over 50 years, who lost her battle with cancer in October, Virginia Lee Hardin Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham is survived by his sons, Robert Cunningham (Theresa), Rayford Cunningham (Thresa) and Randall Cunningham (Stacie); his grandchildren, Brittney Cunningham Hamrick (Kevin), Ryan Cunningham, Allison Cunningham, Kyle Cunningham, Lance Cunningham, Haley Cunningham and Zach Cunningham; a precious great-granddaughter, Arabella Leigh Hamrick; and many precious nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and Kevin Hamrick. Online condolences made at www.graybrownservice.com.
