Mr. Horace Edward Hames, 83, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Piedmont Health Care surrounded by his loving family. Born July 4, 1931 in Bartow County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Pressley Hames and the late Bessie Dover Hames. He grew up in Taylorsville, Georgia. He moved to Jacksonville in 1958 then to Piedmont in 1988. He was employed with Union Yarn Mill for 35 years as Shipping and Receiving Supervisor. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Coogler Hames; two daughters, Elaine Gilmer (Marlin), of Silver Creek, Ga. and Sherry Parker (Neil), of Jacksonville; four grandchildren Marla Gilmer Harrison (Adam), of Douglasville, Ga., Preston Parker and his fiancee, Katherine Hindman, of Jacksonville, Heather Parker Headley (Matt), of Weaver and Taylor Parker, of Jacksonville; three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Frances Chapman (Perry) of Albany, Ga., and Annie Streetman (Ed), of Aragon, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Turner and the Rev. Hayward Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Preston Parker, Taylor Parker, Matthew Headley, James Rosser, Eric Key, Jeff Key, Pressley "Buster" Akins, Joe Tilley, John Akins and Clyde Akins. www.thompsonfuneralhomepiedmont.com
