Funeral services for Howard R. Calhoun, 93, formerly of Wedowee, will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. from the Benefield Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Terry Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 this evening. Mr. Calhoun passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Morningside of Dalton, Georgia. Survivors include one son, Ken Calhoun, of Dalton, Ga.; one grandson, Scott Calhoun, of Brunswick, Ga., and one great-grandson, Luke Calhoun of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pallbearers will be Phil Gasaway, Freddy Brown, Terry Brown, Randy Wilson, Tim Brown and Andy Rainey. A Woodland native, Mr. Calhoun was born on November 22, 1922, the son of Jerry and Viola Smith Calhoun. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and worked as a supervisor at West Point Pepperell. Mr. Calhoun was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mavis Brown Calhoun; seven brothers, and six sisters. Online condolences may be expressed at benefieldfhwedowee.com
