On November 1, 2014, Jackson "Jack" E. Norton, passed away at his home in the AI Community of Cleburne County. A memorial service will be held at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Billy Joe Murray officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janie Sue Norton; a son, Dan Norton (Selina); daughters, Paula (Steve) Hawkins, Micki(Harold) Lipscomb, Brenda Preston; seven grandchildren, Kacee, Matthew, Rebekah Hannah, Abbi, Kati, and Ashleigh; three great-grandchildren; Caynan, Alaina and Kayleigh; two sisters; Bettye Steen, Tommie (Donald) Angel; a brother David Norton and several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Ewell and Gertrude (Myers) Norton. Jack was a successful farmer for many years and followed in his father, Ewell Norton's footsteps by serving as Sheriff of Cleburne County for a record 16 years from 1974-1991. After leaving the Sheriff's office, Jack continued to farm and was employed by L. E. Bell Construction Co., Inc. as the Drug and Alcohol Program Coordinator. Jack was a loving husband and father and he had a deep affection for Cleburne County and its people.
