Funeral service for James A. Jackson, 82, will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 12 noon at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Mr. Jackson passed away on March 1, 2016 at Gadsden Regional Hospital. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Alice Taylor Jackson; his daughter, Melinda J. Patterson, of Roswell, Ga.; his son, James A. (Lora) Jackson Jr., of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, Taylor Patterson, Courtney (Tim) Hicks, Amber (Drew) Christopher; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Abel and Jesse. Mr. Jackson served two years in the military. He retired with 40 years of service in law enforcement starting with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department, Anniston Police Department as a motorcycle policeman, Jacksonville State University Police Department as Chief, City of Jacksonville Police Department and then moved to Montgomery as head of the APost and opened the Police Department Academies state wide. Mr. Jackson was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, serving as State President, national Trustee, among other things. He assisted in getting the Blue Lights for the law enforcement vehicles and the supplement retirement for law enforcement. Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Flora Horton Jackson.
