Service for James Arthur Curlee Sr., 86, will be Sunday, July 31, at 3 p.m., at Chulafinnee Baptist Church with the Rev. Marc Curlee, the Rev. Ben Curlee, and the Rev. Jason Bachus officiating. Mr. Curlee passed away Friday, July 29, after a long illness. The family will receive friends between the hours of 1 and 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Katye Jo Curlee; three sons, Jimmy Curlee, of Heflin, Marc Curlee (Shelley), of Heflin, Alan Curlee (Lori), of Alabaster, and one daughter, Pam Caudle (John), of Heflin. He was Poppie to nine grandchildren, Jason Bachus (Crystal), Adam Curlee, Matthew Curlee, Justin Caudle (Meredith), Alison Comardelle (Lawrence), Emily White (Scott), Ben Curlee (Shelby), Seth Curlee(Stephanie Rosser), Thomas Curlee, and four great-grandchildren, Cody Curlee, Kaylee Curlee, Claudia Caudle and Boaz Caudle. He is also survived by two brothers, John Curlee and Charles "Buddy" Curlee (Joyce), both of Ashland, two sisters, Katie Gravette, of Ashland, and Aileen Foster (Pete), of Bridgeport, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Curlee was preceded in death by a son, Larry Steven Curlee; his parents, Jesse T. Curlee Sr. and Ada Curlee, a brother, Jesse Curlee Jr.; and sister, Sarah Sparks. Pallbearers will be Adam Curlee, Matthew Curlee, Justin Caudle, Seth Curlee, Thomas Curlee, Lawrence Comardelle, Scott White and John Caudle. Mr. Curlee was a native of Clay County and had lived in the Chulafinnee community of Cleburne County for over 50 years. He was a member and former trustee of Chulafinnee Baptist Church. Mr. Curlee was known for his kindness and generosity in always helping members of the community. He retired from the Alabama Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Oxford after 32 years of service.
