Oxford - A celebration of life for Mr. James C. "Pop" Purdy, 91, of Oxford, will be at 11 a.m. today at Meadowbrook Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Rivers officiating. Visitation was Monday night from 6-8 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Purdy went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 12, 2013, surrounded by loved ones at RMC. Mr. Purdy is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Mary Purdy; daughters, Faye Baughn (Clarence), Linda Terrell (Terry), Judy Payton (Kenneth), Perry Heath (David); son, Tracy Purdy; grandchildren, Lanita Coffman, Melissa Barnett, Amanda Simpson, Wendy Sprayberry, Lee Baughn, Brent Blackwood, Justin Campbell, Jeff Campbell, Tim Rhodes, Craig Rhodes, Alyssa Klopfenstein; seven step grandchildren; brother, Royce Carroll; sisters, Jackie Cooper, Joyce Ann Strong, Jean Brown; 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Gwen Simpson; grandson, David Simpson and three brothers, Jr., Howard and Kenneth Purdy. Mr. Purdy was a proud member of the Navy and served our country during World War II. He retired from Anniston Army Depot with 32 years of service. Mr. Purdy loved to eat, fish, hunt, travel and was always ready to get on the road and go. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
