Jacksonville - Funeral service for Mr. James E. Cullins, 87, will be today, October 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel, with the Rev. Garry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Whites Gap Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Mr. Cullins died on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Trinity Medical Center. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Timothy Cullins; his daughter, Debra Ponder and her husband Terry; his son, Jim Cullins and his wife Ruth, all of Jacksonville; three grandchildren, April Owens, Jamie Ponder and Carrie Latimer; five great- grandchildren; and a special friend, Ray Bittle. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Mr. Cullins served as project engineer on many roadway construction projects. He retired from the Alabama State Highway Department after 33 years as District Engineer. Mr. Cullins served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a Master Mason with Masonic Lodge #42 for 58 years. He was a Christian by faith and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mr. Cullins was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey Cullins and Rosa Cullins Robinson and his sister, Lenna Austin.
