James Elias Marcum, 76, died Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Golden Living Center. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Heflin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 tonight. Dryden Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his daughters, Rhonda Ann Marcum, of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. and Candace (Derrick) Marcum, of Eastaboga; step-son, Brian Alverson, of Heflin; sister, Barbara (Dale) Nance, of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, James Elias Marcum III and Allison, Adalynn, Alycia, and Anthony Carter; great- grandchildren, Ryder and Sage Marcum and Ryan, Ahren, Melinda, Patricia, Grace, Makayla, McKinze and James; many nieces and nephews and extended family. Mr. Marcum was a native of West Virginia and a resident of Alabama since the early 70's. James was a retired major in the U.S. Army where he served three tours in Vietnam. He loved his family, fishing, racing, working outdoors and football. James was the family Patriarch and will be missed. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Marcum; wife, Barbara Marcum; brothers, Ernie and Billy Marcum, and sister, Bonnie Marcum; daughter, Sue Carter, and son, James Elias Marcum.
