A funeral service for James Franklin Tompkins, 76, will be Monday, December 22, 2014, 2 p.m. at Faith Temple Christian Center with the Rev. Ken Ballard and Bishop Jerry Irwin officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church. Mr. Tompkins died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at RMC in Anniston. Mr. Tompkins was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville where he organized the Momma Tompkins Singing for over 25 years. Music, laughter and family were his joy and his legacy that lives on in his children and grandchildren. He was previously employed by AOD. He is survived by two daughters, June Tompkins, of Anniston and Jennifer Davis of, Birmingham; two sons, Jimmy (Melea) Tompkins, of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Jonathan (Lori) Tompkins, of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Jared Tompkins, Nate Tompkins, Mason Tompkins, Olivia Tompkins, Victoria Tompkins, Aria Tompkins and Elliana Davis; two sisters, Ruby Laughead and Minnie Murray, both of Jacksonville; two brothers, Ernest Tompkins, of Winston Salem, N.C. and Roy Edward Reaves, of Birmingham; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jared Tompkins, Nate Tompkins, Mason Tompkins, Russell Murray, Robert Laughead and Patterson Tompkins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 yrs, Judy Tompkins; a grandson, Samuel Tompkins and several brothers and sisters. Memorial donations can be made to the CPT Kyle Comfort Foundation.
