Funeral services for Mr. James H. "Jim" Studdard Sr., 80, of Lineville, will be Monday, November 18, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. David Cornett officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Studdard passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013, at the Clay County Nursing Home. Born in Talladega County, Mr. Studdard spent his early years in Texas where he worked for Dow Chemical Company. In 1972, he moved to Clay County where he worked with his brother in the television repair business and, at the same time, was a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff's Department where he worked until his retirement. Mr. Studdard is survived by three daughters, Connie Thomas, of Lineville, Sharon McDowell, of South Carolina and Michelle Studdard, of Lineville; three sons, Everette "Bud" Leeper, of Ohio, James Studdard Jr., of Lineville and Channing Studdard, of Center, Texas; three brothers, Ray Studdard, Charles "Big Boy" Studdard and Tommy Studdard, all of Talladega; 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Studdard and Alva May Hicks Studdard; his former wife, Mary Ann Studdard; his second wife, Shirley J. Teats Studdard; two daughters, Sheila Darlene Studdard and Diane Ryan; one stepson, Roger Leeper; one grandson, J.J. Leeper and one sister, Alline Freeman. The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville from 6 to 8:30 p.m. today, November 17, 2013. He will lie in state for one hour at the church prior to service time on Monday.
