Funeral services for James "Jim" Hyatt Jr, age 54, of Oxford, will be Saturday, January 13, 2018, 4:00 PM in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. John Childs will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Hyatt passed away on Monday at his residence. Survivors include his daughters; Catherine Hyatt, Meredith Hyatt, parents, James H Hyatt Sr and Juanita Hyatt. Mr. Hyatt attended Oxford High School and graduated from Donoho School and Jacksonville State University. He was elected to the Oxford City Council in 1984. Mr. Hyatt was Publisher of Highlands Today, Publisher and Regional VP of The Bristol Herald Courier. Regional VP for Community Newspaper Holding and was chosen by Presstime Magazine as one of "20 under 40" newspaper executives. Mr. Hyatt never missed an Auburn Game and loved to go watch the Atlanta Braves. He loved to fish, golf, racing and enjoyed watching races. Mr. Hyatt never missed any of his daughters sporting events and was their biggest fan. He was a member of First Baptist Church Bristol Virginia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Michaels and All Angles Episcopal Church PO BOX 1884 Anniston, AL 36202, to be used to assist those in recovery and acknowledge the work of Journey into freedom, or to the Jimmy Hale Mission, PO BOX 10472 Birmingham, AL 35202.
