Funeral service for James "Jim" Wayne Smith, 77, will be Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel with the Rev. Josh Brown and Randy Shanks officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Smith died Monday, March 28, 2016 at Gadsden RMC. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Bice-Smith, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Amy (Randy) Shanks, of Wellington and Shena (Stacey) Caudle, of Sylacauga; one son, Larry (Susan) Smith, of Jacksonville; six grandchildren, Taylor Shanks, Cole Smith, Jacob Brown, Joshua Brown, Holley Smith and Madison Shanks; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Kelly Cross, David Roper, Gary Homesley, Taylor Shanks, Cole Smith and Jason Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army National Guard. He attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was a die hard Alabama fan, an avid rabbit hunter and loved bowling. In his spare time he enjoyed being with his family and friends. For many years, Mr. Smith coached baseball in the Williams Community and was known and loved by all who knew him. He was a loving husband, father and paw paw and will be greatly missed. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph O. and Leola Boozer Smith; one brother, Eskell Smith; and one sister, Sally Bryant.
