Funeral service for James M. Cheatham, 88, will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Union United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. Mr. Cheatham died Friday at his home. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary P. Cheatham; daughter, Teresa Stricklin (Chuck), of Jacksonville; grandson, T. J. Stricklin, of Jacksonville; sister, Grace Echols, of Sidney, Ohio and brothers, John W. Cheatham Jr., of Alexandria, La. and Jerry Wayne Cheatham, of Cullman. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Lucille Cheatham; brothers, Harold, Malcolm and Robert Cheatham and sister, Wilma Jean Buckelew. Pallbearers will be Randy Smith, Butch Haver, Keith Bryant, Todd Ginn, Scott Ginn, Will Ginn, Ray Johnson and Jerry King. Honorary pallbearers will be Union United Methodist Church Men's Sunday School Class. Mr. Cheatham was a graduate of Jacksonville State College. He was a teacher and coach at Saks Jr. High School for one year, Duke Jr. High School for ten years and Alexandria High School for 10 years. He was a soybean, wheat and corn farmer and cared for a herd of registered black angus cattle. The family would like to thank Dr. Rehman, Kamran, Kline and Iyer; Amedisys Hospice; Alacare Home Health Care and New Beacon Hospice.
