Mr. James Monroe Hanvey, 84, passed away on August 2, 2016, at his residence. Jim was born in Anniston on March 14, 1932. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1951. From 1952-1956, Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Chikaskia 054. He was a member of Harvest Church of God. Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a tireless worker willing to lend a hand in the service of others. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William Albert Hanvey and Thelma Jane Hanvey; brothers, Ernest Hanvey and Clayton Hanvey. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Judy Ray Hanvey; son, James Monroe Hanvey II (Cindy), of Cullman; daughters, Jamie Kay Hanvey Mason (Jeff), of Anniston, Juliette Lee Hanvey Owen (Jonathan), of Franklin, Tenn., Gayla Hardegree (Eddie), of Springville; grandchildren, Dara Caitlin Hanvey, Walker David Mason, James Monroe Hanvey III, Sara Elizabeth Mason, Meryl Ray Owen and Marlee Kay Owen; sisters, Jean Yeatman, of Faulkville, Lucretia Teague, of Anniston; brothers, Gerald Hanvey, of Anniston and Ray Hanvey, of Arab. Pallbearers will be Trey Hanvey, Walker Mason, Jeff Mason, Jonathan Owen, Benny Ray and John Hugh Talley. Funeral service will be at 12 p.m. today at Harvest Church of God, located at 520 Golden Springs Road. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
