Memorial service for SGT James Richard Bivins, US Army, retired, 74, of Jacksonville, will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Cedar Springs Baptist Church. The Reverend Jesse Barksdale will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. SGT Bivins passed away at his home on Sunday, January 21, 2018. SGT Bivins was a long-time resident of Jacksonville. He was retired from Anniston Army Depot and was a US Army Veteran, serving two tours in Vietnam. SGT Bivins is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Birdie Bivins; and brothers, Eugene Bivins, David Bivins. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Gail Chaney Bivins; sons, Wesley Bivins (Amanda), and Justin Racca (Ashley); grandchildren, Allison Bivins, Payton Bivins and Cheyenne Racca; sisters, Sara Lewis (Vernon), Betty Aderholt (Herb), and Carol Bush (Larry); caregiver, Debbie Peoples; adopted family, Dean, Angel, Crimson and Luke Key; 14 nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, William "Mo" Chaney; and a sister-in-law, Marie Chaney Batchelor.
