Funeral service for Mr. James Robert "Buddy" Ponder, 60, will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Pastor Jeff Duncan will officiate the service. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Ponder passed away at his residence on Friday, June 3, 2016. He is survived by his sisters Jeanelle Hammonds (Brownie), Wanda Birchfield (Billy); step-daughter, Kaila Cavender (Allen); step-son, Josh McDaniel (Christine); step-grandchildren, Brendan Cavender and Alyssa McDaniel; nephews, Greg Clark (Crystal), Shawn Clark and Cory Hammonds; niece, Cassie Haney (Jason); great-nieces, Ashton Clark and Emma Sudduth; great-nephew, Blake Clark; fur babies, Nick and Saban. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie S. "Pete" Ponder and Bettie Ponder. Pallbearers will be Greg Clark, Shawn Clark, Jamie Thompson, Cory Hammonds, Scott Henderson and Johnny Pilkington. Mr. Ponder was of the Baptist Faith. He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed watching Nascar. He was a licensed scuba diver and was a rescue diver. Mr. Ponder took honor in helping anyone he could and because of that, he was very active with the Civil Defense.
