The funeral service for SFC James Shawn Davenport, U.S. Army, 38, will be at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Gadsden Country Club, 1884 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, AL 35901. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Gadsden Country Club. SFC Davenport passed away on February 28, 2016 at UAB Hospital after a short but hard fought battle with AML Leukemia. SFC Davenport was born and raised in Frankfort, KY. He had also owned an electrical company, Davenport Electric. He joined the Kentucky National Guard in 1995 and transferred to the Alabama National Guard in 2011. He was a member of the 20th Special Forces Group (A) where he served as a parachute rigger, Master Parachutist, Jump Master, and Readiness NCO for the company. He served his country with tours in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and Iraq. He was a respected and highly decorated soldier who received numerous awards, ribbons, and commendations including eight Army Commendation Medals and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. SFC Davenport had been posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. SFC Davenport was a member of Koshin-Ha Chito-Kai where he held a 3rd degree black belt in Chito-Ryu. He enjoyed being outside shooting guns, hiking, and martial arts. He was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his wife and children. SFC Davenport is preceded in death by his father, James L. Davenport, and a grandfather, Billy L. Davenport. He is survived by his wife, Ashley Marie Davenport (Wilson), of Wellington; his children, Kendall Chase Davenport and Annabelle Marie Davenport, of Wellington; his mother, Rita Gail Catlett, of Frankfort, KY; a brother, Daniel Ransom Davenport (Sharon), of Lexington, KY; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arline and Keith Wilson, of Nicholasville, KY; his grandparents, George and Claudine Catlett, of Waddy, KY and Viola Davenport, of Rogersville, TN; a nephew, Justice Ransom Davenport; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
