The funeral service for Mr. James Turner Gunter, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today, January 14, 2016, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Henry Gibson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forestlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour today at the funeral home. Mr. Gunter passed away on January 12, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Gunter was born in St. Clair county. After marrying, he and his wife moved to Calhoun County in 1951. He worked for A&P for 28 years then for SuperValu for 10 years. He was a lifelong Methodist and attended Eulaton United Methodist Church. He coached little league baseball and basketball for many years. He collected antique cars and enjoyed touring the southeast with his wife. He was a member and former president of the Cheaha Antique Car Club. Mr. Gunter is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Howard Gunter and his siblings, Paul Gunter, Bill Gunter, Noreen Hoyle, Mary Williams, Catherine Hardy and G.W. Gunter. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Wood and her husband, Bill, and Sharon Lackey and her husband, Jim; his grandchildren, Eric L. Davis and his wife, Angela and Elisha Wilson and her husband, Sean, Scott Lackey and his wife, Cheri, Shelley Kirk and her husband, Steve, Angie Daniel and her husband, Jody, and Coty Smith and her husband, Tyler; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon, Liam, Wade, Jessica, Logan, Jordan, Avarie, Aynslie and Annalie; great-great-grandchildren, Brody and Ally; a brother, Sam Gunter; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bob Shaw, Sean Wilson, Jason Holley, Michael Holley, Rodney Conaway, Steve Kirk, Jody Daniel, Scott Lackey and Ronnie Gunter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the General Fund at Eulaton United Methodist Church, 401 Westover Road, Anniston, AL 36201.
