The funeral service for Mr. James Weems, 91, will be at 12 p.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Dr. Roland P. Brown officiating. Entombment will follow at Forestlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Weems passed away on March 24, 2017 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. Mr. Weems was a native of Moody. He served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He also attended Golden Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Weems is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Davie Weems; his wife of 53 years, Mary Weems; a daughter, Christi Hanzik; a daughter-in-law, Joan Weems; a grandson, Jesse Taylor; sisters, Dorothy Grogan, Ruby Macbrayer, Glenrose Deerman, and Ethel Weems; a brother, Lawrence Weems. He is survived by his daughters, Marcia Pratt (Jim) and Alyson Watson; his sons, Phil Weems and Britt Weems (Angela); grandchildren, Kasey Cobb (Mark), Brandy Walls (Hunter), Andrew Pratt (Jessica), Philip Pratt, and Braxton Pratt; great-grandchildren, James, Jackson, Jack, Kallie, and Kaelin; a sister, Lorene Mewbourn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Anniston Soup Bowl, 301 W. 15th St., Anniston, AL 36201. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.klbrownmemorychapel.com.
