Anniston native and lifelong resident, Jane Edwards Wheeler died on Friday, August 4, 2017, her 85th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Parks Wheeler, who retired as President of Regions Bank, which succeeded Anniston National Bank. The daughter of Leslie Minton Edwards and Myrtle Rice Edwards, Mrs. Wheeler was devoted to her hometown of Anniston and served many civic organizations, including the Knox Concert Series, the Salvation Army, and the original Parents' Anonymous. Mrs. Wheeler was a graduate of Anniston High School, attended Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia, and received her BA degree at the University of Alabama. There she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Upon her marriage to Mr. Wheeler, she joined him at Grace Episcopal Church, where she served for many years as Altar Guild member, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School teacher. Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her children, Raymond Parks Wheeler (Larke), of Atlanta, John MacGregor Wheeler (Sarah), of Chicago, Illinois, and Leslie Wheeler Miles (Heath), of Atlanta. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Callan Kennedy Wheeler, Walker Addison Wheeler, Josephine Parks Wheeler, Hannah Wright Wheeler, Evelyn King Wheeler, John MacGregor Wheeler Jr., Grace Jane Miles, and Andrew Miles. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leslie Minton Edwards (Sara Mell, who survives). Mrs. Wheeler's brother-in-law, Porter King Wheeler (Mary), of Bethesda, Maryland, also survives. The family wishes to thank the staff of NHC Place where Mrs. Wheeler had resided for the last three years. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Big Oak Ranch, or . The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017, at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. Lee Shafer officiating. The family will meet friends at 10 a.m. in the King Parlour at the Church. Internment at Highland Cemetery, with arrangements by K.L. Brown.
