Jane Wade Manthey, former longtime resident of Anniston, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimers Disease on July 2, 2017. Born June 30, 1935 in Fort William (now Thunder Bay), Ontario, Canada, she is predeceased by her parents, Laura Mae (Langstaff) and Wilsmore Lowell Wade, of Nipigon, Ontario, Canada, and her late husband of 42 years, Donald R. Manthey, of Anniston. Jane earned her teacher's certificate from North Bay Teacher's College. She taught first grade for four years. Upon marrying Don, she moved to Houston, Texas and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Houston. She taught special education before having their children. As a mother of three children, Jane worked as a homemaker, serving her church, First United Methodist Church, Anniston, and volunteering for her children's school. In 1992, Jane became an American citizen. In later years, she was a devoted fulltime caregiver for her husband who had Parkinson's disease for many years. She is survived by three children, Kristin (Scott) Martin, Shannon Manthey and Wade Manthey, all of Birmingham; her sister-in-law, Caroled Marie, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and niece and nephews, Linda (Chester) Johnson, Dale (Terra) Marie, Gary (Elaine) Marie, and David (Kathy) Marie, all of Ohio. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Kirkwood by the River, 3605 Ratliff Road, Birmingham, AL 35210. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. prior to the memorial service at 2 p.m. in Kirkwood's chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzeimer's of Central Alabama or your favorite nonprofit organization. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of NHC Place, Anniston, Ala. and Kirkland by the River staff in the skilled nursing unit for their kind and compassionate care.
