The family of Mrs. Jean Hudgins Newman, 76, of Jacksonville, will receive friends from 3-5 pm on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jacksonville. Mrs. Newman passed away on December 20, 2017 in Jacksonville. Mrs. Newman was a native of Charlotte, NC and spent many summers in Cherry Grove, SC. She attended Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She enjoyed raising her children and then went on to pursue a career in real estate in Naples, FL. In 1997, Mrs. Newman relocated to Jacksonville to be near her granddaughters. She also worked for a time as a bookkeeper at Flower Mart. Mrs. Newman loved gardening and spending time with her family. Mrs. Newman is preceded in death by parents, Tom and Jean Hudgins, and a sister, Melinda Adams. Mrs. Newman is survived by her children, Jean Slaght and her husband, Vaughn, of Jacksonville, Rob "Buzz" Newman, III and his wife, Michelle of Greenville, SC, and Megan Pennington and her husband, Kevin, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Jeanie Slaght, McKenzie Slaght, Carleigh Newman, Christian Newman, and Blair Pennington; a brother, Tom Hudgins, Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and her former husband, Rob Newman, Jr., of Leesburg, FL.
