Jeanne Marie Acker Meigs of Anniston died Thursday October, 12, 2017. She was born March 5, 1932 in Anniston, AL to the late William Proncy Acker and Joyce Jackson Acker. She graduated from high school at Saint Mary's School in Raleigh, NC and attended Mount Vernon Junior College in Washington D.C. She graduated from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Mrs. Meigs was preceded in death by her parents. She was married for more than 50 years to the late James Hurst Meigs, Jr. of Anniston where they lived all of their married life. She is survived by her two sons, James Hurst Meigs III. of Anniston; William Acker Meigs; two grandsons, William Acker Meigs, Jr. and Rocco James Meigs, of Glastonbury, CT; a sister, Joyce Acker Ratliff of Birmingham; a brother, William Proncy Acker III; her sister-in-law Helen Meigs Lankford of Pell City; and several nephews. Mrs. Meigs was a long time active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Anniston. She was also a member of the Reveler's Krewe and the Masker's Ball in Anniston. She was known for her very caring attention to the needs of her family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday October, 15 at First Presbyterian Church of Anniston, conducted by The Reverend Dr. James McLeod and Pastoral Assistant, David Hodnett. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the narthex of the church.
