Funeral service for Mr. Jerry L. Thompson, 64, of Oxford, will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with Bro. Calvin Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Thompson passed away on February 26, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Thompson was known by his friends and coworkers as "Smiley". He was a graduate of Oxford High School. Mr. Thompson had retired after 30 years of service as a heavy equipment mechanic at Anniston Army Depot. He loved his family and they came first in his life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and will be remembered for being kind, generous and never meeting a stranger. He loved fishing and The University of Alabama football. He was a former member of Trinity Baptist Church in Oxford. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his father, Meron J. "Tommy" Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Harriet Thompson, of Oxford; a daughter, Jennifer Gallahar and her husband, Joey, of Oxford; two sons, Jamie Thompson and his wife, Mary, of Oxford and Ryan Thompson, of Oxford; grandchildren, Landen Gallahar, Lauren Gallahar, Sophie Gallahar, Briauna Thompson, Jaydon Thompson and Layla Thompson, Emma Matheny, Noah Matheny, Trevor Thompson and Chloe Thompson; his mother, Katherine Kadle Thompson, of Oxford; sisters, Wanda Smith and her husband, Dr. George Smith, of Lineville and Kathy Alexander and her husband, Stan, of Birmingham; a brother, Tommy Thompson and his wife, Kathleen, of Birmingham; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cromer, Ricky Mc Comb, Clyde Parker, Jerry Smith, Ronnie Smith and Johnny Young. Online condolences may be made to the family at K.L.
