Funeral service for Jerry Lewis Champion Sr. will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2017 at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with Pastor Robert Angles officiating. Burial will follow at Oxford Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military funeral honors. The family will receive friends from 11-1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Jerry departed this life on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children, Jerry Lewis Champion Jr., Patty Ann Hice (and their spouses Alma and Scott), and includes Nathan, Sandra and Daryl; kis sister and brothers, Martha, Jimmy, Wayne, Donald, Ricky, Randy, Stevie and Danny; he is also survived by his many cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, first wife, brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; his parents, and his sisters, Gayle and Phyllis. Mr. Champion, son of the late Ralph and Lucille Champion was born April 29, 1942 in Anniston. In his youth, he attended the Salvation Army Church in Anniston. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop Charter 103, and achieved the status of an Eagle Scout. Jerry enjoyed his youthful adventures of camping and fishing until he enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1961. He served his country with honor for 20 years as a firefighter until his discharge in 1981 at the rank of Technical Sergeant. Jerry continued his service to country with the Civil Service as a Civil Engineer until his retirement in 2003. His career took him on many travels around the world. His interests included family, genealogy, Atlanta Braves baseball and Alabama football (ROLL TIDE). Jerry devoted much of his time helping others research their family genealogy. He was a volunteer with the Milton Library (Milton, Fla.) and the Baker Block Museum (Baker, Fla.). Online condolences made at
