Jerry Michael Harwell, 68, of Delta passed away at home on May 8, 2017. A private remembrance will be held by his family. Jerry is survived by his step-daughter, Tania E. McCollough; three step-grandchildren, Jordan E. McCollough, Timothy J. McCollough, and Kidwyn C. McCollough; one step-great-grandson, Jude L. McCollough. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlies E. Harwell; mother, Juliette J. Harwell; father, William T. Harwell; brother, Roger Harwell; and step-son, Brian P. Murray. Mr. Harwell earned his GED from the U.S. Armed Forces Institute in November 1964. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 20, 1966. He served in the Vietnam War where he earned the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal - 2 stars, Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Mr. Harwell was Honorably Discharged on Nov. 4, 1969 with the Rank of BM3 - Boatswain Mate 3rd Class. He later earned certification in auto mechanics in 1987. He married Marlies Harwell on Dec. 23, 1991. He earned certifications as an OTR Truck Driver in 1998. Mr. Harwell was a beloved son, brother, husband, step-dad, and step-granddaddy.
