Jerry Thomas "Bulldog" Phillips, 70, of Piedmont, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018 surrounded by his family. Born in Calhoun County to Orban and Monteen Rogers Phillips, he retired from Goodyear after 38 years service. He was drafted out of Piedmont High School and served in the US Army in Vietnam for two years. He came back to Piedmont to graduate and was a member of the 1965 Calhoun County Championship Football Team. He loved Piedmont High School football and made a special point to shake every player's hand after each home game. He was also a devout Auburn fan and member of Goshen Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: William Earl, Billy Charles, and Steven Phillips; and one sister: Gwendolyn Phillips. He is survived by his wife: Mary Fortenberry Phillip; daughter: Christy Phillips; son: Chadwick Phillips; brothers: Doug (Linda) Phillips and Nathaniel (Anita) Phillips) sisters: Catherine Newton, Sue (Wayne) Shaw, Mary Jo Phillips, Martha (Jerry) Owens, Sharon Anthony; two grandchildren: Brayden and Karsyn Kirk; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service with military honors will be Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM from Dansby Heritage Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30 from 6-8 PM at Dansby Heritage Chapel . Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack's Table of Knowledge and Past and Present Piedmont High School Football teams. Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Phillips Family.
