Funeral service for Mr. Jesse James Abernathy, Jr., 78, will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Steward the Rev. Tommy Reaves officiating. Burial will follow the service in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday. Mr. Abernathy passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at RMC in Anniston. Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife of 26 years, Shirley Cooper Abernathy; his son Perry Abernathy of Alexandria; three step-sons, Gery Michael Rust of Anniston, Alfred Sean (Julie) Rust of Bainbridge Island, WA, and Brandon Scott (Nan) Rust of Lincoln; two brothers, James (Sandra) Abernathy of Lincoln and Clyde (Janice) Abernathy of Coldwater; two sisters, Mary Hester Hale of Ohatchee and Jessie Aleen Lloyd of Phenix City; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Abernathy was a member of First Baptist Church of Saks where he enjoyed singing in the choir and attending Sunday School with The Kingsmen Class. Mr. Abernathy was a loving father and husband and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse James Abernathy, Sr. and Naomi Calhoun Abernathy; one brother, J.T. Abernathy; and three sisters, Lois Cochran, Magnolia Pettus and Joyce Carter.
