Memorial service will be Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home. Family visitation and reception will follow at the funeral home. Mr. Coleman passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015. He retired from the Navy in 1977 with the rank of Commander. He was a 1949 Graduate of Cragford High School and attended Harford College before enlisting in the Navy in 1951. He served as a personnel man for nine years before requesting to become an officer through the LDO program. He was commissioned an Ensign June 2, 1960. His awards and medals include Navy Commendation Medal with Combat 'V', Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat 'V', Revolutionary Development Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupational Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Naval Surface Warfare Officers Insignia. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Lou Coleman; daughter, Debra Diane Hoover; son, Verlon Keith Coleman; mother, Lois Macoy and brothers, Billy and Johnny Macoy. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Katherine Vermillion and Lou Ann Coleman Hanners; 6 grandchildren, Anne Elizabeth Vermillion, Leeanna Hoover Valentini, John Vermillion IV, Tyler Dee Hanners, Josie Katherine Hanners and Jessie Benjamin Hanners.
