Mrs. Craven was a person of strong faith and had great love for her family and friends. Though seemingly quiet and unassuming, she shared many humorous stories with her loved ones about growing up in the country. Her family will always remember her special expressions and her reminders to "be careful" and to "call when you get there." They will continue to take care of each other as she taught by example. Born in Clay County on November 1, 1929, Mrs. Craven has been a resident of Oxford since 1954. She worked at the G.E. plant, Southern Light, and Magic Chef before joining her husband as owners of The Tackle Box in Oxford. Mr. and Mrs. Craven retired in 2013. Mrs. Craven had been a member of Dodson Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1968. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Craven; parents, Dave and Easter New; sisters, Bernice Boyd and Velma Taylor; brothers, Carl New, Julian New, and Troy New. The family extends its thanks to the staff at Brookwood Medical Center. Donations in memory of Mrs. Craven may be made to Dodson Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 3174, Oxford, AL 36203.
