Funeral service for Jimmie Owens Carter, 97, will be Saturday, November 8, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home with the Reverends Bob Owens and Ted Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Home two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Coldwater Cemetery. Mrs. Carter died Thursday, November 6, 2014, at her residence. She is survived by two sons, Bob Carter (Marie) and Jerry Carter (Linda); two daughters, Mary Luallen (Edwin) and Annette Fagan (Garry); eleven grandchildren; twenty four greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Iron Carter; her parents E.L. and Carrie Owens; two sisters, Ina Miller McAllister and Mildred Camp; a brother, Clovis Owens and a grandson, Brandon Murphree. Mrs. Carter was a lifelong member of the Coldwater United Methodist church where she was pianist for approximately seventy-five years. She was a Sunday School teacher and held many offices in the church. Some of her favorite things in life were playing the piano and singing old gospel songs. She worked with the Extension Service and the Community Action Agency. She retired at age 90 from the City of Oxford after serving as Director and Assistant Director of the Senior Citizen Center for 28 years. Pall bearers will be Roger Luallen, Shannon Wade, Jeff Fagan, Steve Quinn, Mark Hall, Robert "Brother" Henson. The family would like to express thanks to her caregivers, Norma Camp (her niece who loved her like a mother and stayed many nights with her), Rachael Measles, Sherri Searcy, Dale Gray and the staff of New Beacon Hospice. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
