Anniston - Funeral services for Joe Penison "Uncle Joe" Phillips, 88, will be on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Refuge Full Gospel Methodist Church with Elder Benjamin L. Little officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery. Mr. Phillips remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to his services. Mr. Phillips passed away July 14, 2013 at Birmingham VA Hospital. Mr. Phillips completed his education in military, while serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a World War II veteran. Mr. Phillips was a self-employed contractor for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Annie T. Phillips; daughter, Margaret (Charles) Greene; extended daughters, Phyllis (Julius) Teague, Sharon E. Doleman; extended sons, Harvey (Louise) Doleman Jr. and Frederick L. Doleman, who he raised as his own son; siblings, Lillian Lester, of Miami, Fla., Doris Brown, of Jefferson, Ga., Linda (Shafter) Turner, of Montgomery, and Leadie Phillips; grandchildren, Ameka (Johnathan) Stokes, Charles Green Jr., Santita (Juan) Garrett; extended grandson, Gregory Hill; great-grandchildren, Quentarius, Jamareus, Jasmine, Ashley, Keryane, Somer, Charles Greene III, Dantarius and Charlessetta; a aunt, Mattie S. Williams, of Palmetto, Ga.; in-laws; other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lizzie D. Phillips; his first wife, Willie Mae Maffett; siblings, Gussie Mae Simon, Frances Chapman, Ollie Sue Phillips, John Phillips, Raymond (Evelyn) Phillips, Damon Phillips and Thomas Phillips.
