Rev. John E. Howard, 74 of Arab, died Tuesday January 23, 2018 at his residence. Rev. Howard was born June 16, 1943 in Calhoun County to John H. Howard and Grace Cole Howard. He retired from Redstone Arsenal where he worked in Quality Assurance. Rev. Howard pastored several churches' including Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Arab, churches' in Calhoun and Talladega Counties. Before his health deteriorated he was very active in his church at Union Grove First Baptist where he served in several leadership positions including associate pastor. He and the former Shirley Stone were married for 51 years. He enjoyed working with computers and small engines. Rev. Howard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and his church family and will truly be missed by many. He was a member of Union Grove First Baptist Church. Rev. Howard is survived by his wife Shirley Stone Howard; his sons and daughters-in-law: Greg Howard and Amy, Anthony Howard and Kathy and Timothy Howard; his grandchildren: Jennifer Howard, Sara Allen and Matt, Johnathon Howard and Annie, Brandon Howard, Samuel Howard, Julianne Howard, Lauren Howard and Nicholas Howard; great grandchild: Jayden Howard; his brother and sister-in-law: Larry Howard and Joyce and his sisters: Joyce Medders, Sue McDill and Faye. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday January 26, 2018 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Brother: Greg Narrell, officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove First Baptist Church Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel directing. Pallbearers will be Johnathon Howard, Brandon Howard, Samuel Howard, Dewayne Smith, Chase Smith and Nicholas Howard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenneth Jones, Mack Henderson, Joel Jones, Bob King and Max Snow. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Friday January 26, 2018 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel prior to the service.
