Anniston - Funeral services for John Earl Cunningham, 88, of Anniston, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with the Rev's. Chuck and Dianne Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at Eulaton United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Cunningham died June 17, 2013 at his residence. Survivors include wife, Ruby Winn Cunningham; three daughters, Dianne Whitehead (Chuck), Vicki Hixon (Bob) and Teresa Bentley (Travis); grandchildren, Tiffany Grimes (Paul), Nathan Whitehead and Dresden Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Brody and Eli Grimes; sister, Catherine Mattheson (Robert) and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Cunningham is preceded in death by his son, Johnny Cunningham; father, Earl Oliver Cunningham; mother, Mary Pinson Cunningham; sister, Mary Ruth Snelling and brother-in-law, Henry Snelling. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the shipmates of the USS Richard P. Leary. Mr. Cunningham was a native and lifelong resident of Anniston. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot where he was a foreman in the machine shop. He was a World War II U. S. Navy veteran and a member of the VFW. Mr. Cunningham also was an avid fisherman.
