A memorial service for Mr. John Ira Vardaman III, 66, will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Vardaman passed away on August 22, 2015 at RMC. Mr. Vardaman was a graduate of The University of Alabama. He retired from the railroad after over 30 years as a Railroad Officer. He was also a former professional fisherman. Mr. Vardaman is survived by his sons, J.I. Vardaman IV and Chris Vardaman; three sisters, Martha Wilson, Kathi Johnson and Dianna Hopson; grandchildren, Christopher Vardaman Jr., Chandler Vardaman, Johnathon Vardaman, and Nicholas Vardaman; two great-grandchildren; Addyson and Mason Vardaman; two nieces, Julie Towns and Stephanie Hopson; a nephew, Steven Johnson, and a special friend, Beverly Parsons. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Children's Harbor, 1 Our Children's Highway, Alexander City, AL 35010, or to CURE Childhood Cancer, 1117 Perimeter Center West, Suite N-402, Atlanta, GA 30338.
