The funeral service for Mr. John L. Taber, 76, will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home. Mr. Taber passed away on January 27, 2015 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Mr. Taber was born and raised in Etowah County. He served in the Alabama National Guard for several years and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Oxford. He was self employed as a painting contractor. Mr. Taber enjoyed fishing, watching University of Alabama football and most of all, spending time with his family. Mr. Taber is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Geraldine Fant Taber; a son-in-law, Gary Carter; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Taber and a brother, Ed Taber. Mr. Taber is survived by his daughters, Debra Carter, of Anniston, Pam Young, of Oxford and Tammy Beck and her husband, Randy, of Tuscaloosa; a son, Johnny Taber Jr. and his wife, Debra, of Pell City; grandchildren, Shawn Carter and his wife, Bethany, Todd Carter and his wife, Angela, Elisha Bryant and her husband, Brandon, Tiffany Tigue and her husband, Phillip, Jamie Taber, Cody Taber, Presley Couch, James Taber, Jillian Taber, Meagan Beck, Niki Beck and Dalton Beck; nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Randy Beck, Phillip Tigue, Todd Carter, Shawn Carter, Brandon Bryant, Danny Duke and James Butler.
