Funeral service for John W. Cruise, 73, will be Sunday, July 12, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, with Dr. Derek Staples officiating. A private entombment in Forestlawn Gardens will follow the service. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Mr. Cruise died Friday, July 10, 2015 at RMC of Jacksonville. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Cruise, of Jacksonville; his daughter, Dawn Cruise, of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Jackie Vaughn, of Panama City, Fla. and Donna (David) White, of Chelsea; one brother, David (Beverly) Cruise, of Alachua, Fla. and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews including, Yvette Pierce, of Panama City, Brooklyn White, of Chelsea, Christi (Shannon) Adams, of Alachua, Fla., David Michael (Danielle) Cruise, of Alachua, Fla., Brett (Lauren) Pierce, of Panama City, Fla., Shelby Adams, of Alachua, Fla. and Lacey Cruise, of Alachua, Florida. Pallbearers will be family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Belton Stanford, Bobby Lowman and Wendell McGinnis. Mr. Cruise was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He became a Sheet Metal Mechanic, working for Local 48 Union after four years of Technical School, which he attended at night after graduating high school. After working 28 years for Local 48, Mr. Cruise retired and spent his spare time sharing the gospel by playing his guitar and singing at local nursing homes, especially Piedmont Health Care and Rehab. Mr. Cruise was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Elmer and Mildred McCombs Cruise.
