Funeral service for Johnnie O. Russell "Mutt" "Sergeant", 99, will be on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church with the Rev. Stevie Houston, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Eden Hills Cemetery. Mr. Russell passed away on January 29, 2017 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Mr. Russell's remains will arrive at the church one hour prior to his service. Mr. Russell served in the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps, World War II, U.S. Army. He was a business owner. Survivors include his wife, Eudora H. Russell; son, John E. Russell; step-children, Ronald (Carla) Bennett, Felton (Gwen) Jackson, Janice (Renae) White, Shelia (Roy) Long and Chana (Ran) Gunn; grandchildren, Jaquindalyn, Lisa, Letitia, John, Donnell, Antron, Demar, Jazzer'ray, Brandon, Lacrece, Ronald Jr., Terrence, Renae Jr., Antonio and Chanel; great-grandchildren, Danisha, Johnnie, Britteny, Ashley, Andrew and Lori; great- great-grandchild, Yania; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chummey and Bealuh Russell; daughter, Jaquelin Russell; step-daughter, Louise Heflin; grandson, Marcus O. Russell; siblings, Genenevel Miller, Mable Collier, Patsy Russell, Chummey Russell Jr. and Shirley Smedley; niece, Cassandra Laster; nephews, Oscar Russell and Aaron Kirkland.
